Isle de St. Barthélemy
is located at 18°N, 63°W, in the northeastern corner of the Caribbean
Sea, 4400 miles from Paris, 1700 miles from New York, 125 miles east
from Puerto Rico, and 15 miles southeast from St. Maarten. Bermuda
Hundreds of millions
of years ago, a great undersea volcano started erupting on the floor of
what is now the Atlantic Ocean and created a 3-mile high mountian.
The
top of the volcano never broke through the 15,000 feet of water and
eventually became extinct. As time passed, Coral Polyps began to attach
themselves to the summit of the undersea mountain and a system of Coral
Reefs was born covering the 330 square mile undersea summit. Cayman
Islands
Nestled in the calm, turquoise waters of the western Caribbean, lies the
peaceful British Crown Colony known as the Cayman Islands. Consisting of
three islands just 480 miles south of Miami, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac,
and Little Cayman remain our little piece of paradise. Montserrat
is situated
about 40 km SW of Antigua in the Leeward Islands and is part of the
British West Indies. The island can be reached by ferry or helicopter
from Antigua. Montserrat has much of volcanic interest, not the least
being the Soufrière group of peaks with two volcanoes and the islands
highest point, Chances Peak, at 3000 feet. One volcano still smoulders
following its violent eruption in the late nineties. Tortola
is the largest of the British Virgin Islands. Its main city, Road Town,
is the capital of the B.V.I. This is the center of activity in the
British Virgin Islands. Make no mistake, though, Tortola is a still a
"get away from it all" destination. It is a center of activity
only relative to other British Virgin Islands. This is the destination
for those who want to experience the friendly charm of the British
Virgin Islands without completely abandoning access to (small) city life.
